About "Ancient Roman Stairway"

In Rome, Italy, If you enter into the Roman Forum from the Colosseum entrance, off to your left is Palatine Hill. Just at the summit of the stairs is this scene of an early Roman Senator's home.

I was intrigued by he patterning of the walls and the contrast between the bright sunny stair area and the shadowed areas. The foliage and water added just the right softening touch to the ancient plaster and stone.
